A Day of Sea Breezes and Vintage Jewelry in Malibu

Southern California was unusually cold, wet and windy this February. But, the siren song of golden sands, sea-spray, and rugged stone proved much more powerful than a chilly breeze, so we packed up some of our vintage jewelry pieces and headed to Malibu for a sunset shoot with model Fidelia Grace and Victoria Gold Photography. Our destination? El Matador Beach, one of Malibu's most famous, and beautiful, seaside must-sees—and the perfect place to showcase the beauty of vintage jewelry against the majesty of nature's wonders.

The soaring bluffs and whispering sands were warmed by the winter sun, but we still found ourselves shivering with more than anticipation as we arrived at El Matador. Part of Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach, this stretch of seaside paradise is famous not just for its golden sands and arresting views, but its mysterious sea-caves and enthralling rock formations as well.

Things soon warmed up, as Fidelia effortlessly, and elegantly, navigated both surf and turf wearing a variety of antique engagement rings and other pieces whose colors and cuts echoed the natural beauty that surrounded us.

We were absolutely captivated by the effortless blending of couture and coastline that came to life during this shoot. El Matador is chockablock with natural beauty, much of it echoed by the pieces we'd chosen for the day. A slender, intricate ring-mount recalled the whimsy of pocked stone and driftwood, topped by a diamond anemone, while the abundance of pearls—those shining gifts of the sea—inspired us to keep a sharp eye out for jealous mermaids lurking in the surf. And in the slanting afternoon sun, the magic meeting of gold, green, and cream in our vintage bracelets and rings seemed to capture the essence of the sea.

No matter the season, it's hard not to wish for more time when you visit El Matador. Every adventure must come to an end (especially when there's a warm fire and a hot drink waiting!), and so, as the sun slipped beyond the horizon, we headed home. Like the summer sun, we'll definitely be making a return during the warmer parts of the year, searching as always for beauty, adventure, and fun.
